Daytona Youth Football Tournament
Westfield Youth Football will return to Daytona Beach Florida this Thanksgiving to participate in the country’s largest youth football tournament. WYF attended in the years past with only the most positive experience. The following is information about what the tournament & the trip is all about. November is far away, but planning for this trip is now starting and will be completed by the end of August. Those interested in learning more about this trip can email and sign the info sheet that will be present at Registrations. We will NOT entertain anyone who approaches us after the deadline as there is too much paperwork & preparation that this trip requires.
What is it?
The National Youth Football Championship is a tournament that is held post season for all who enter. This tournament was established in 1972 and has become the country’s biggest, most successful & best run tournament for youth football. It takes place over the Thanksgiving school vacation and each team play a total of 2 games.
Included in the trip package is that the team stays at the Hilton which is located directly on Daytona Beach where the kids have access to the pools, ocean & the board walk. Also, on a day off from games the team will spend the day at Universal Studios which is included in the package. Thanksgiving dinner is a semi-formal meal where the team has their separate banquet room at the Hilton where the dinner is fully catered. Who can participate?
We will take players interested from the Juniors (6thgrade only) & Seniors (7th-8th). The way it works is the tournament gets every team who enters roster including ages, weights, & level of competition of regular season and they come to an average for age & weight for each team. Those teams are then put into a bracket to other teams who have the same averages so that the level of competition is equal. So, if we have some 6th graders they won’t be playing against strictly 7th & 8th graders. We will be playing against teams that have the same amount of players from each grade. Our trip in years past, we had a mixed team of ages and faced 2 other teams who were in the same boat. We felt the tournament did a great job with matching teams.
How do you determine who goes?
We will take limited players. It will be by 1st come 1st serve basis. We will have a waiting list just in case of injury where a player who is on list can no longer play.
We will have a info meeting for this trip the 2nd week of Aug for those who show interest and want to learn more. A deposit will be required by the end of Aug, and a payment plan can be created for those who need it will final & full payment being due By Nov 1st.
What is the cost?
The cost for players who goes without a parent will be approx. $650 which will pay for their room, tournament fees, pass to Universal Studios & Thanksgiving dinner, and spending money. Spending money will be put on a debit card with players name on it and a chaperone will be responsible for it up until the time player would like to use it. Players who attend with parent will have cost of $400 and spending money will be responsibility of parent.
Transportation
WYF will cover the cost of the Deluxe Bus. Bus is equipped with bathroom & TV’s with DVD player. The drive will be a direct drive with the only stops being to switch from one driver to a new one. Bus will provide all in town travel while in Daytona. There are limited spots they may be open for those interested in being a chaperone. Once again, this will be a 1st come 1st serve basis.
Dates
Bus will depart from Westfield High School on Monday Nov. 23th @ 5PM
Bus will depart Daytona, Fl. On Sunday 11/29 around 10am and return early evening Monday 11/30th
(Players will miss school on 11/24, and 11/30)
This really is a once in a life time experience for a lot of the kids who attend. We had such a great time in years past and expect the same this year. If interested act soon.
